A decor code is only part of the appearance decision. Review the face, texture, edging and assembled corner together, then carry the selected references into the component schedule.

UNDERSTAND THE DETAIL
Why can a matching edge band still look different?
A shared decor description does not guarantee an identical finished corner. Colour, gloss, texture, printed figure and the visible joint all contribute to the result. Compare the specified board and band as an assembled sample with the same orientation and finishing process intended for production.
Keep separate product references for the panel face and the edge material. If two suppliers use a similar colour name, obtain their actual samples rather than assuming their codes describe one interchangeable finish. Review a corner where both surfaces are visible at the same time.

- Check embossing or grain direction on long edges and adjoining doors.

Should edge-band thickness be included in the cut size?
State whether the drawing gives substrate dimensions or finished dimensions. As a simple dimensional example, a 600 mm finished width with an assumed 1 mm added on each side implies a 598 mm substrate before other process allowances. The workshop must confirm the actual trimming and finished build-up.

Define the combination being ordered
Record the panel decor, surface texture and face/back arrangement. Give the edge material its own reference, including the required dimensions and finished profile. If a supplier proposes a matching equivalent, identify it as an alternative for review.
For directional patterns, put grain arrows on the component drawing. A door and side can use the same decor yet look different when their directions change. Identify which panels will be viewed together so matching is evaluated at the scale of the finished cabinet.
Use a corner sample for approval
Prepare a representative cut and edged corner using the intended process. Inspect the face-to-edge transition, corner treatment and any visible joint under the project’s viewing conditions. Retain the sample identity with the decor and edge-band references.
If cutting or edging changes, record the new process before comparing its appearance. Separate machining observations from colour or texture differences. This helps the workshop and purchasing team decide whether the next action concerns processing, material selection or both.

Do not reduce the approval to a note saying matching edging. Keep the actual codes and accepted sample together, and identify any change to them before repeating the order.
