Why can a matching edge band still look different?
Compare the board and edge band as an assembled corner. Check colour, gloss, texture, grain and the visible joint in the same orientation and finish you plan to produce.
Keep separate product references for the panel face and the edge material. If two suppliers use a similar colour name, obtain their actual samples rather than assuming their codes describe one interchangeable finish. Review a corner where both surfaces are visible at the same time.

Should edge-band thickness be included in the cut size?
State whether the drawing gives substrate dimensions or finished dimensions. As a simple dimensional example, a 600 mm finished width with an assumed 1 mm added on each side implies a 598 mm substrate before other process allowances. The workshop must confirm the actual trimming and finished build-up.

A useful match file connects the actual board and band to a finished corner your customer will see. Review the proposed references together with the adhesive or activation process, substrate preparation and trimming. Record the reverse and concealed edges too, so the quote describes the whole supplied component.

Identify the edging technology as part of the offer
REHAU’s processing overview distinguishes primer edgebands used with adhesive from functional-layer systems activated by compatible equipment. Request the current instructions for the specific band, adhesive or activation system and machine being proposed. Record the intended service conditions and any required testing on the complete component.
Define the combination being ordered
Record the panel decor, surface texture and face/back arrangement. Give the edge material its own reference, including the required dimensions and finished profile. If a supplier proposes a matching equivalent, identify it as an alternative for review.
For directional patterns, put grain arrows on the component drawing. A door and side can use the same decor yet look different when their directions change. Identify which panels will be viewed together so matching is evaluated at the scale of the finished cabinet.
Use a corner sample for approval
Prepare a representative cut and edged corner using the intended process. Inspect the face-to-edge transition, corner treatment and any visible joint under the project’s viewing conditions. Retain the sample identity with the decor and edge-band references.
If cutting or edging changes, record the new process before comparing its appearance. Separate machining observations from colour or texture differences. This helps the workshop and purchasing team decide whether the next action concerns processing, material selection or both.

CUT SIZE / FINISHED SIZE
Calculate the cut size from the completed edge build-up
For a width edged on both sides, finished width = substrate cut width + effective left addition + effective right addition. Effective addition means the completed contribution after the relevant preparation, adhesive/functional layer and trimming. Agree this with the actual process; the catalogue band thickness alone may not describe the completed dimension.

The lower and upper calculation combines the permitted extremes. Record the measurement stage, datum, conditions, method and relevant positions with the actual cut and completed component readings. A change in pre-milling, edge, adhesive or corner tooling needs the finished-size and fitting comparison to be revisited.
Check the real adjoining door gaps, fittings and edge profile on the assembled trial. Record which operations are supplied and which remain in your workshop; the drawing should identify the dimensions required at each handover.
Carry the edged-side schedule into the material quantity
Chosen planning inputs: 20 rectangular doors with a finished face of 600 × 2000 mm and four edges assigned to one band. Use the finished perimeter as the stated length-planning basis here; the workshop’s actual cut/feed schedule and machine instructions determine the production requirement. Allocate a chosen 20 mm lead and 20 mm tail per separate edge pass, then apply one chosen 5% operating reserve to that subtotal.

Price the actual band supplied and the required edging operations on the same scope. Include trial/setup, preparation, processing, inspection and any remaining rework or replacement plan. Compare cost per complete usable door or cabinet set, with board/band leftovers valued only where the parties agree a separate use or credit.
Specify the complete board-and-edge combination
CUZI Melamine MDF can be supplied single-sided or double-sided. Name the decor and texture for each face, the substrate grade and the required finished thickness. If you are also considering HPL or PVC, compare them as separate surface options rather than substitutes for the selected melamine finish.
Give every visible part a finish reference
Use separate codes for face decor, texture and edging. Mark substrate or finished dimensions on the drawing, identify grain direction on doors and sides, and show any surfaces viewed together. Add the reverse-face requirement even where it is concealed.
Send the decor swatch or supplier reference with your inquiry. Request a panel sample for your edging process and retain the accepted assembled corner alongside both material codes. Ask the quote to state exactly which processing and edge materials are included.
Request one reproducible component combination
Send the board/band references and your actual part drawing, sidedness, edged-side schedule, finish limits and quantities. Ask the quote to identify the substrate grade, front/reverse build-up and emission/product data for the offered construction, decor and edging scope, supplied machining and complete-unit protection. Keep the same named FOB/CIF port when comparing alternatives.
Request the board for your actual corner trial and discuss any proposed edge/processing supply as a named item. Preserve the accepted physical reference, process revision and board/band lot identities for repeat orders, spares and selected substitutes.

Can matching be approved from separate swatches?
Separate swatches can narrow the choice, but the assembled corner shows the joint and profile. Use it when those details affect acceptance.
What if the exact edging is unavailable later?
Request an identified alternative and compare it with the existing reference. Confirm the revised combination before it is mixed into a coordinated furniture set.
Does the same colour name define the same board and edge?
Keep manufacturer/article, decor, texture and sheen as separate references. Compare the actual assembled corner and record the accepted combination for the intended viewing conditions.
Can the cut size stay unchanged when a thicker edge is selected?
Calculate the completed additions on the affected sides and review the drawing’s substrate and finished dimensions. Trial the actual process and assembly fit before issuing the revised schedule.
How should leftover band be counted in the quote?
Separate operating reserve from purchase-unit rounding and identify each decor/lot. Give leftover material a separate agreed use or credit when comparing complete-component cost.
Can an adhesive-based setup process every functional-layer band?
Identify the specific band backing/primer or functional layer and compatible machine/activation process. Use the selected suppliers’ current instructions and the actual corner trial for that combination.
