Choose thickness around the pocket, profile and fitting.

An 18 mm MR MDF inquiry is a useful starting point for a cabinet drawing. The final choice follows the part geometry, remaining section and fittings. Keep nominal board thickness, finished tolerance and any facing build-up separate when comparing bare board with a faced or processed alternative.

Questions for choosing a gauge within the available 9–25 mm range
Thickness band to discussBuying questionDetail to send
9–12 mmWill the insert or lining fit its frame and fixing arrangement?Part dimensions, grooves, supports, fixings and the intended painted or faced surface.
15–18 mmDoes the door leave enough material around its pocket and profile?Hardware drawing, pocket depth, remaining section, edge shape and assembled clearances.
20–25 mmDoes the thicker detail suit the design, hardware and handling?Profile section, fitting reference, supports, completed dimensions and part mass requirement.

These bands organise the specification, rather than provide load ratings. For a loaded shelf or top, include the span, support arrangement and working load with the material-property requirements. Ask for the exact nominal thickness you need within the listed range.

DECORATIVE FACED COMPONENTS

Faced MDF

For a finished decorative surface, specify the facing and substrate separately. Include any MR requirement with the decor and back construction.

Compare laminated MDF

MR MDF is not a waterproof or exterior-grade specification. The European Panel Federation’s application guidance distinguishes moisture-resistant interior board from exterior MDF.

A decorative face is a separate part of the construction.

The white melamine-faced board shown above is a faced option. Include an MR substrate explicitly when your project needs it, together with the decor, texture, faced sides, reverse construction and finished thickness. A melamine surface alone does not define the core’s moisture-resistance grade.

For HPL or PVC-faced MDF, discuss the facing and substrate as one quoted assembly. State which edges and openings are machined after delivery and which finishing operations your workshop will complete.

Take the board and finishing route into the same trial.

For an 18 mm cabinet component, compare the raw MR board your workshop will machine and paint with a white melamine-faced MR construction for a decorated part. Use the same finished drawing and hardware, while pricing the different preparation, edge and reverse work each route needs.

  1. Share the componentSend the thickness, drawing, finish and intended room. Highlight routed edges, hinge pockets or sink-side openings.
  2. Run your processMachine and finish the sample with your production tooling, coating system and edge treatment.
  3. Keep the order referenceRecord the finished appearance, fit and agreed checks. Keep the selected sample with the drawing and item specification.

The profile and openings deserve the same finish as the face.

A routed door exposes fibre at the recess and edge. Use the intended cutter and profile depth, inspect the machined surface, and record the sanding or sealing your coating process needs. Include the reverse, fastener holes and plumbing openings in the completed-part trial.

Review the cured flat face, deepest routed feature, corners and edges together. Keep the coating reference, preparation, curing conditions, fitting and drawing revision with the selected part. The European Panel Federation’s MDF edge-finishing guidance provides background on machined-edge preparation.

PROTECT THE BOARD BEFORE MACHINING

Agree packing for your receiving workshop.

Include bundle labels, pack weight, handling limits and protection for edges and corners in your inquiry. Keep thicknesses and grades identifiable in a mixed container.

Store boards supported, covered and clear of damp floors, and plan conditioning before machining. Use the panel storage and moisture guide for incoming checks and workshop preparation.

Make the bundle label useful to the receiving team.

Agree product designation, nominal thickness, sheet format, emission option, quantity and your order-item reference on each pack. Keep bare/faced material and different grades identifiable in a mixed load. Request sheets per bundle, external dimensions and measured net/gross weights for handling and freight planning.

At receiving, match labels and quantities to the packing list. Record damage or signs of moisture with the item reference before processing affected material. Store boards flat on suitable support, under cover and clear of damp floors; follow the material supplier’s conditioning instructions for your workshop.

Use the incoming-panel checklist for a receiving record connected to the order and the repeat-order guide for changes to a board, finish or pack arrangement.

YOUR DESIGN. ITS WORKING ENVIRONMENT.

Give kitchen and bathroom furniture the right starting board.

A good painted door starts below the finish. Choose moisture-resistant MDF around the room, the machined detail and the way your workshop will complete the part.

Moisture-resistant MDF, often called MR MDF, is designed for humid indoor conditions. Start with your component drawing and finish reference. CUZI offers 9–25 mm boards with E0 or E1 emission options, so your sample and quotation can follow the furniture range you are building.

Plan the board, finish and edge protection together.

MR MDF still needs suitable surface finishing and protection at cut edges, joints and openings. For prolonged wetting or outdoor exposure, specify a material and complete assembly designed for that service.

For an outdoor component, use the exterior MDF project brief to specify the exposure and proposed grade. Keep its documented service conditions, finish and installation requirements together with the quotation.

For a side-by-side buying decision, read Moisture Resistant MDF vs Standard MDF. Compare the location, complete edge/finish detail and relevant product methods before choosing the working sample.

Plan the MR grade, nominal thickness and sheet format together. Our MDF thickness and size guide helps frame your dimension and density request alongside the humid-interior specification.

More than a green board and a sheet price.

For your furniture range, thickness needs to fit the hardware pockets, sheet format needs to suit the cutting list, and the machined board needs to work with your finish. Put those details on the same order line so your purchasing team and workshop compare the same delivered material.

MR MDF and HMR MDF are common buying terms for moisture-resistant board. Include the proposed board designation and its technical properties in the request. A colour preference can help identify your material, while the grade and corresponding data describe the performance you are buying.

Compare formats against the cutting list.

For 400 × 700 mm rectangular door blanks in 18 mm MR MDF, the calculation below allows 5 mm trimming at each sheet edge and a 3 mm gap between adjoining pieces. It compares one repeated orientation before defects, production losses or additional machining allowances.

Scroll horizontally to compare all columns.

Cutting-plan calculation for 400 × 700 mm door blanks
Regular sheetRepeated layoutBlanks per sheetBlank area / sheet areaSheets for 1000 blanks
1220 × 2440 mm3 across × 3 along; 1210 × 2430 mm usable after edge trims.92.52 / 2.9768 m² = 84.65%112 before production reserve
2100 × 2800 mm5 across × 3 along; 2090 × 2790 mm usable after edge trims.154.20 / 5.88 m² = 71.43%67 before production reserve

The larger sheet produces more blanks in this arrangement; the smaller format has higher area utilisation. Mixed nesting, a different part size or your machine limits can change the result. Run the full list through your nesting process and add the reserve your production needs.

At 18 mm, calculated nominal net volume is 0.0535824 m³ for a 1220 × 2440 mm sheet and 0.10584 m³ for a 2100 × 2800 mm sheet. These dimension calculations are separate from shipment weights and container loading. Send the selected formats and sheet count for the packing and freight quotation.

Send your cutting list through cut-to-size panel supply when the quotation should include processing, or use the panel quantity calculator to organise sheet count and volume.

ONE CONTAINER. YOUR PRODUCT MIX.

Plan MR MDF around your next production run.

Order from one container and combine product lines in a mixed load. Separate quantities by thickness, size and emission option so the quotation follows the items you will manufacture.

Regular production takes 10–15 days, with shipping additional. Share your receiving date and port for a FOB or CIF quotation, and explore mixed MDF container ordering for the rest of your range.

FAQ

Moisture-resistant MDF buying questions.

What thicknesses and emission options can CUZI supply?

Moisture-resistant MDF is available in 9–25 mm with E0 or E1 options. Include the sheet size, quantity, destination and required emission test method with your selected thickness.

Which MR MDF sheet sizes are regular?

Regular MDF formats are 1220 × 2440 and 2100 × 2800 mm. Formats of 1220 × 3050, 1830 × 3660 and 1220 × 3660 mm are on request. Quote each thickness and format as a separate item.

Is moisture-resistant MDF waterproof?

No. MR MDF is intended for humid interior conditions. Protect the finished surfaces, cut edges, joints and openings. For persistent water contact or outdoor exposure, request a material and assembly specified for that environment.

What should I check when buying green MDF?

Ask for the MR board designation and technical data, then match them to your thickness and application. Specify the performance and emission requirement in the order as well as any colour preference.

Can I paint or route MR MDF?

Yes. Request a sample for your profile and finish system. Check the machined edge before coating, then evaluate the complete painted part, including recesses, hardware pockets and protected edges.

How do E0 and E1 relate to my destination requirements?

Select the offered emission option and name the required method, destination and product documentation. Send any US, EU or project-specific requirement with the inquiry so the quotation addresses the documents you need.

Can I request free samples and mix products in a container?

Yes. Samples are free, with freight paid by the buyer and a credit available by agreement on a later order. The minimum order is one container; mixed loads are available. Send quantities by product and specification.

What information starts an MR MDF quotation?

A thickness, sheet size, quantity and destination port are enough to begin. Add the component drawing, finish and document requirements you already have. Request FOB or CIF against a named port.

What if my cabinet back needs a thinner board?

MR MDF is available in 9–25 mm. For a 3 mm or 6 mm back in a dry interior, compare the standard Plain MDF range with its frame, groove and finish. If the back must meet the same humid-use specification as the cabinet, keep that required grade with the drawing when discussing a thinner construction; thickness and ordinary-board availability alone do not settle that requirement.

What should I specify for bathroom furniture?

Include the MR grade, thickness, component drawing, coating and protection at cut edges, joints and openings. Request technical data for the proposed board and trial your finished component.
