A hardware comparison should keep the fitting, panel and installation method connected. Test the detail that will be assembled in production and record any change to the pilot hole, fastener or board as a separate variable.

How should you compare screw holding in MDF and plywood?
Compare the same fitting in representative components, with the panel construction and assembly method identified. Screw holding is not one interchangeable figure: face fixing, edge fixing, withdrawal, sideways loading and repeated opening can ask different questions of an assembly.
For MDF, the European Panel Federation discusses pilot holes and suitable screw geometry as part of the fixing method. Use the actual fitting instructions and proposed board when developing the trial. Do not transfer a result from a different screw or fixing position to the cabinet detail without reviewing the change.

Can a strong initial screw grip approve a cabinet hinge?
Initial grip is one observation. The assembled door may also need repeated-operation or load evaluation under the applicable furniture requirements. Record door geometry, hardware positions and use conditions so the responsible reviewer can choose the relevant trial rather than judging the hinge only by installation feel.

Build a representative hardware sample
Choose a component containing the real recess, edge distance and fitting position. Supply the hardware reference and drawing revision to the workshop preparing the sample. If more than one panel construction is being considered, identify each sample before drilling begins.
Follow the hardware and panel suppliers’ relevant instructions for the proposed application. The European Panel Federation notes that comparative screw-withdrawal results need the same screw type and test method. A change in the fitting or procedure can make an apparent material comparison difficult to interpret.
Separate initial fit from performance in use
A hinge that sits correctly in its recess has passed a fit observation, not every service requirement. Define which further checks the complete component needs, who sets the criteria and how the result will be recorded. The required evaluation depends on the intended furniture and duty.
Where development changes are needed, adjust one identified detail at a time. Record the new fitting or machining revision and repeat the agreed evaluation. Keep the accepted combination as the production reference so purchasing does not change the substrate without a linked review.

Questions buyers ask
Can a face-fixing result stand in for an edge fixing?
Treat the actual fixing location and orientation as part of the requirement. A different detail needs a relevant evaluation rather than an assumed transfer of results.
Should I compare only the screw pull-out number?
Use the properties and complete-component checks relevant to the application. A single result should not replace review of fitting geometry, assembly and the intended duty.
