MAKE THE BOND REQUIREMENT PART OF THE PANEL ORDER

Turn a WBP description into a specification you can compare.

WBP is a commercial description for plywood with water-resistant bonding. For an EN-based purchase, name the EN 314-2 bond requirement, class and relevant EN 314-1 test method beside the face, core, dimensions and intended conditions. The complete product requirement belongs in the same item, giving your purchasing team a defined construction and bond basis for comparing quotations.

For an EN-based inquiry, discuss EN 314-2 bonding requirements, EN 314-1 test methods and the appropriate complete product requirement. CUZI offers WBP plywood to European EN requirements, with buyer-specified testing available on request. Send the required class and intended exposure so the proposed construction and data follow your application.

The practical buying result is a repeatable material line: a named panel, its veneer construction and gauge, the requested bond requirement, and the information that corresponds to the offer. Keep the finished component and actual exposure beside that line so the quotation answers the use your business has in mind.

EN 314 and EN 636 address different parts of the purchase.

EN 314-2Requirements for veneer-plywood bonding classes according to end use.Required class, edition and identified panel construction.
EN 314-1Bonding-quality test methods.Test method, preparation and conditions, results and assessment.
EN 636Plywood product requirements for general-purpose or structural use in dry, humid or exterior conditions.Required product designation, application and relevant properties.

BSI's EN 314-2 scope directs the test methods to EN 314-1. Its EN 636 overview covers the plywood product and includes coated or overlaid plywood within scope, while treating overlay and coating materials/processes separately. Carry the panel, bond and finished surface descriptions together.

Write the standard part and edition rather than “EN plywood” alone. Ask the supplier to identify the requirement and scope addressed by the offered item. For a designed structural component, include the material properties and product information specified by your designer.

Separate labels that use similar numbers.

Record each field independently rather than turning one class number into all the requirements for the board. A film weight, appearance grade or adhesive name has its own role in the description and remains separate from the bond assessment.

For an alternative strand-board quotation, read Plywood vs OSB: grades and standards. Carry the intended use and moisture conditions into each material’s own product designation before comparing offers.

EN 314-2 bond classes: dry, humid and exterior.

The Wood Panel Industries Federation's PanelGuide plywood annex relates the three bonding classes to dry, humid and exterior conditions. Use the class with the required product designation and the conditions your component will encounter.

Bonding-class descriptions for an EN-based inquiry
Bond classCondition descriptionDiscuss with the panel
Class 1DryThe dry-use component, complete product requirement and relevant board data.
Class 2HumidThe humidity or protected exposure, product designation and finished detail.
Class 3ExteriorThe exterior bond requirement, whole-panel properties, protection and intended application.

State whether the part is an interior cabinet, a protected component, an exposed panel or another defined use. Add the expected wetting, drying, joints and finish. That gives the supplier context for proposing the panel and matching the requested data.

Our WBP plywood page connects the EN requirement with the construction and order options. The exterior-grade plywood route brings the product designation, protection and installation into the same component brief.

Write the exposure your component will actually see.

Describe the room or outside location, shelter, wetting or condensation, contact cycle and drying/drainage arrangement. Add the working joint, cut edges, holes and complete finish. Keep the responsible project requirement with that exposure when discussing the proposed class.

The bond classification describes glue-line performance for its stated conditions. The wood species, panel construction, protection and installation also affect the complete component. Retain their requirements in the order, including the relevant data for a loaded, marine or other designed part.

Plywood glue types: identify the adhesive and the tested bond.

You may encounter UF, MUF and PF in plywood descriptions: urea-formaldehyde, melamine-urea-formaldehyde and phenol-formaldehyde. WPIF's plywood annex identifies these common resin families and describes differences in their bonding applications.

Ask which adhesive system is proposed for your panel, then request the relevant bond performance and method. Keep the formulation description, veneer construction and resulting bond classification in the same item file. Where an overlay or additional facing is involved, identify that bonding system as well.

Describe the result your application requires. The quotation can then identify the offered construction and the supporting bond information. For a painted furniture component, include the face and edge preparation. For a site panel, include the working surface, openings and fixing details.

Formaldehyde-emission requirements are another field in the order. Specify the emission option and required method/destination documents alongside the bond requirement. When buying a faced panel, include the complete substrate, adhesive, overlay and reverse arrangement in that request.

Identify the bonding systems at different interfaces.

Ask which system bonds the main veneers, whether another facing is added in a later operation, and which adhesive belongs to the overlay or decorative face. Keep those interfaces with the full layer description so the document request corresponds to the board your workshop will receive.

For a changed resin or veneer arrangement, request the information applicable to the revised product. Retain formulation identity, relevant bond result and required emission documents with the new item rather than carrying the previous construction’s file forward unchanged.

A bond classification belongs beside the whole-panel requirement.

Specify the face and back veneers, inner species and lay-up, appearance grade, dimensions and intended finish. For an exposed-edge furniture part, evaluate the visible edge and fitting detail. For a marine or structural part, retain the product standard and material data called for by the drawing.

APA's plywood guidance distinguishes Exterior from Exposure 1 in its North American scheme, and explains that bond classification does not establish fungal-decay resistance. Use the classification system your project specifies with its product and design requirements.

European and North American descriptions should remain clearly identified on the item. Have the project team review any proposed alternative against the complete requirement. Keep the offered product information, required performance and finished detail together when comparing quotations.

For a marine purchase, use the marine plywood route with the component drawing. Our marine versus exterior comparison explains the product, veneer and document choices in more detail.

Use the visible layers to discuss the panel.

The photograph shows a textured film face and exposed veneer layers. It helps describe the surface and underlying construction; a picture does not establish an EN bond class or a tested result. Request that information for the quoted panel with the intended use.

For a component that will be machined, include the layer section at a cut edge, hole or joint. Retain face/back gauges, inner veneers and supplied surface with the drawing. Compare the completed feature and any relevant directional data as well as the broad panel face.

CONNECT THE RESULT TO THE BOARD YOU ARE BUYING

Send the document request with the specification. When reviewing alternatives, ask which differences in thickness, inner veneers, adhesive, finish or manufacture are covered by the supplied information. Record the selected material and relevant data with the order item.

For a recurring stock line, retain the construction revision and agreed document references with the item code. Use that reference when discussing a change or the next container, so the buying team can see which material is being repeated.

Read force, tested area and units together.

A shear stress is force divided by the defined shear area, expressed in N/mm²; 1 N/mm² equals 1 MPa. The calculation below uses chosen rectangular area inputs to explain the units. It is not a test result or a bond-class acceptance threshold.

Scroll horizontally to compare all columns.

Arithmetic force-to-area comparison with chosen inputs
Force inputDefined area inputCalculated stress
600 N20 × 25 = 500 mm²1.20 N/mm²
750 N25 × 25 = 625 mm²1.20 N/mm²

The larger force gives the same stress here because the defined area is also larger. For an actual report, use its method, measured specimen geometry, preparation, recorded outcomes and assessment. Keep any reported wood-failure information with the result and required standard instead of selecting a class from a single force value.

When two records differ in treatment, gauge, lay-up or assessment basis, list those differences before comparing their numbers. Request the corresponding construction scope with the offered panel; numerical similarity does not identify the same purchase.

Use a working sample and a named test for their respective decisions.

A working sample helps your team examine the face, cut core, edge finish, joint and fixing. A bond assessment follows the required test method and preparation. Put both on the same panel reference when the purchase needs both.

For an EN inquiry, request testing and assessment appropriate to the stated class. For another buyer-specified requirement, send its standard, edition and scope. Agree the test and documentation arrangement with the proposed construction as the quotation develops.

Record the sample dimensions and the machining or finishing trial your team needs. Keep photographs, observations and any measured results with that working sample. If investigating a panel issue, use the panel nonconformity guide to identify the item, agreed requirement and observed difference.

Where the component includes coating, glue joints, holes or hardware, trial those details in their completed arrangement. The coating and penetration brief helps describe the openings and edges that fabrication introduces.

Keep workshop observation and method-based assessment distinct.

Your workshop reference should show the selected cut, fitting, edge finish or coating with the material code and drawing issue. The testing record should identify the panel and procedure used for the required bond assessment. Keep both with the quotation where the purchase calls for both.

For a buyer-specified test, send the standard/edition, intended construction and required document scope before agreeing the arrangement. State whether your team needs a cut section, machined detail, complete panel or method-prepared specimens so the supplied material suits the task.

Keep the film surface and underlying bond on separate lines.

For a film faced panel, identify the plywood construction and bond requirement together with the film. CUZI Film Plywood is available in 4–30 mm with poplar, birch, eucalyptus or mixed cores; brown, black or red films; 90–240 g/m²; and single- or double-sided arrangements.

For shuttering, specify the forming system, panel supports, cut sizes, joints and concrete-contact face. Include the required material and bond data from the project with the chosen film and core. Our Shuttering Plywood range is 9–30 mm, with the corresponding film/core options.

For a repeat-use discussion, record the operating and cleaning conditions, edge treatment, handling and observed surface/bond condition. The film-faced reuse record helps track the actual panel and working conditions through those uses.

Keep repeated work tied to the operating record.

Describe supports, joints, release/cleaning process, cut-edge treatment and storage when discussing a repeated-use panel. Record completed uses and observed condition for the identified construction. A printed pattern, film weight or bond label does not set a universal number of accepted working cycles.

CUZI WBP supply options: put the construction beside the bond.

WBP plywood is available in 3–30 mm with poplar, birch or eucalyptus cores, BB/CC or C/D face/back options and E0/E1 emission options. Include the face species, grading basis, required emission method and bond requirement with the item.

Regular plywood formats are 1220 × 2440 mm, 1250 × 2500 mm and 1525 × 3050 mm. Sizes such as 1220 × 3050 mm and 1250 × 3660 mm are available on request. Add the finished tolerance, processing and pack requirements alongside the sheet count.

A useful brief reads: “WBP plywood for [component and conditions]; [face/back, core and lay-up]; [dimensions and quantity]; bond to [standard, edition and class] with [required testing/documents]; [finish, processing and destination].” Complete the fields that your job requires and send the drawing where the detail matters.

Use the RFQ checklist to organise the item, and the plywood size guide to compare formats and quantities. Keep an alternative core or surface as a separate quotation line so its construction and data remain visible.

Quote two core options under the same requirement.

For a purchasing comparison, request two 18 mm, 1220 × 2440 mm constructions with the same selected face/back, grading basis, bond requirement, finished tolerance and delivery scope. The lines below use supply-range core options to organise that request; the quotation and matching data define the final offered item.

BRING YOUR REQUIREMENT INTO THE CONVERSATION

Request the proposed panel data with the conditions you have in mind.

The exterior and humid-use requests carry the corresponding EN 314-2 class and EN 314-1 methods into the form for discussion. Add the required editions, component, actual exposure, face/core and dimensions. Ask for the offered construction and the documents relevant to that item.

CUZI orders start at one container, with mixed loads available. Regular production takes 10–15 days, with shipping time additional. Request FOB or CIF with the named port. Samples are free; the buyer pays freight, with a later-order freight credit available by agreement.

Keep the selected record with the next order.

Retain the material code, construction revision, required class/method and relevant document references beside the working sample and part drawing. Use them for the repeat order and receiving labels, and identify any changed core, surface, gauge or process in the next inquiry.

Plywood bond classes and WBP questions.

What should WBP mean on a plywood quotation?

What are the EN 314-2 bond classes?

The class descriptions are Class 1 dry, Class 2 humid and Class 3 exterior. Include the required class with the product designation and relevant assessment for your application.

How do EN 314-1, EN 314-2 and EN 636 differ?

EN 314-1 provides bonding-quality test methods; EN 314-2 sets the bonding-class requirements. EN 636 concerns the plywood product for its use. Identify the required parts, editions and product scope in your order.

Does a phenolic glue description settle the bond requirement?

Identify the offered adhesive and request the relevant bond data for the finished plywood construction. Review the standard, class, methods and report scope alongside the panel description.

Does WBP plywood meet a marine product requirement?

For a marine purchase, specify the required complete marine product and documents from the drawing. Include veneers, lay-up, dimensions and bond data in that request; the marine-versus-exterior guide explains the comparison.

Are E0 or E1 the same as a bond class?

Emission and bond requirements belong in separate fields. State the emission option and method/destination documents alongside the required bond standard, class and assessment.

Can CUZI test to the buyer's required method?

Buyer-specified testing is available on request. Send the standard, edition, required class/results, proposed application and document scope so the testing arrangement can be discussed with the quoted construction.
